How did a law graduate become one of the most prominent global fashion chroniclers of our time? And how did he feature on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list? When Tata CLiQ Luxury asked 28-year-old digital creator Rahi Chadda this, he said: “I walked out on my training contract in 2015 to pursue a career as a creative. Fast forward a few years, and here I am — doing exactly that. The journey of following my heart was a risk worth taking. Fashion is an affirmation of my spirit.”

In 2022, Rahi became the first Indian-origin male ambassador for Dior Beauty. His keen eye for luxury and his timeless take on style has landed him on the covers of Indian magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and Grazia. He is thriving on Instagram, where his 1.1 million followers get virtual access to major fashion shows like Giorgio Armani, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Prada. Rahi’s influence, however, goes far beyond the catwalks. He is now a trailblazing figure in the business of fashion.

Here, Rahi speaks about all things style, and the film he created for The Luxe Life 2 that will be live through March 11–15, 2022.

How has your relationship with clothing evolved?

Rahi Chadda (RC): As I have grown to understand fashion more, I’ve become mindful of the pieces I choose to purchase. I now invest in classic pieces, which give longevity to my wardrobe instead of giving in to a momentary fad or a trend.

Is there a fashion moment etched in your memory?

RC: Virgil Abloh’s last show for Louis Vuitton before his demise. I attended it as a part of Fall/Winter 2022 showcases at Paris Fashion Week. The presentation was dreamlike with a spiritual element. At the end of the show, the space had an overriding sense of emotion; and the collection was truly magical.

Which is the most timeless piece of clothing in your closet?

RC: My denim jeans. Although the style may have changed over the years, the classic pair still has versatility. My black skinny jeans, in particular, are an undeniable wardrobe staple.

One accessory you love?

RC: That’s easy — my rings! They have sentimental value, give me self-confidence, and carry a feel-good factor. In my opinion, rings are must-have accessories for men. They create a statement without being overwhelming. Plus, you can define the meaning of your rings — they assign more value to your entire look.

This year, you created a short film for Tata CLiQ Luxury’s The Luxe Life 2. Tell us about it.

RC: Filming with some of my closest friends — who are also my colleagues in the industry — was special. We championed and celebrated South Asians in the British fashion landscape, which made the shoot a fulfilling experience.

In a nutshell, how would you describe London style?

RC: London is one of the world’s biggest fashion capitals. It has different neighbourhoods, and each carries a distinct style statement. The city’s East pushes the boundaries of streetwear and Hypebeast culture juxtaposed with classic tailoring and sartorial elegance in Mayfair.

What is the one thing on your 2022 fashion wish list?

RC: The Rock, which is the new Birkin for men, was recently launched by Hermès during its Fall/Winter 2022 presentation. It’s high up on my wish list!
